infinity stretches unlimitlessly/ countless days pass by immeasurably/ anniversaries gutter in the maelstrom/ whirling a snowstorm of lustrous millennium/ we couldn’t stay together/ this couldn’t last forever
one of my favorite things ever on television… i love you, isabella rossellini.
the amount of shows in los angeles that i find interesting for the month of march is a little overwhelming! tonight is zola jesus at the natural history museum (for first fridays), and i have kicked myself m^n times for not getting tickets for this show earlier. zola is, and i emphasize this, AMAZING. (i’m going to be sad about missing this show for months.) luckily, there is no shortage of shows to get my mind off of zola.
the first is choir of young believers. it’s another random indie band that i like. they remind me of spiritualized a bit…i think. i’m not sure what else to compare them too, but i like their stuff. so, that should suffice. on to apparat, whom i really like. his last album, the devil’s walk, was released late last year. it proved to be for me the most common soundtrack to my life for a while. it’s really well-constructed ambient music. there is an intricate dreamscape i always escape into when i listen to any apparat composition, but this album really conjured up a lot of creative juices out of me. he’s a brilliant german, and i’ve been a fan of his work for years, including his work with modeselektor and ellen alien. he really elevates electronica to an almost deific state. next, there is the ever dance floor friendly and idealistic (lyrically) vnv nation. anyone who’s ever been into ebm or darkwave or whatever anyone wants to label it, will attest to the elation felt when dancing to anything they remix or play. if i had to choose one show this month, then this would be it (or maybe apparat). there are so many fond memories i have in relation to vnv’s music from my young drunken days at perversion or the dungeon. (^_^) and then, there’s vitalic… he’ll be playing a dj set at the el rey: “my friend dario has a super racer car.” enough said, right? too bad it’s a sunday, or i would be more thrilled at the idea of partying the night away at this show. however, i do want to go. also, there’s telepathe. they play charming synthpop, and they’re from new york. i’m always up for something i find interesting and inexpensive: this female duo’s show at the echo. und finally, around spring breakish time, there’s the hard la festival at the wiltern. there’s a-track, jack beats, destructo, etc. party time! after all the long hours of studying and projects i’ve put in, i’ll be glad to spend the night shaking my ass to all the good beats! thus concludes my march update!

The Silver Lake Jubilee will be making it’s return for a third year in 2012, and the line up for the neighborhood party was just released! You can expect to see plenty of local Los Angeles favorites including Autolux, Aloe Blacc, FIDLAR, Funeral Party, KINKY, La Santa Cecilia, Eastern Conference Champions and many more. You can see the full line up after the jump below. Just like in the past years there will also be plenty of literature, artists, food trucks, and shopping to go around.
This is all set to take place on Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May27th. The location of this years Jubilee has changed slightly and will no longer be under the bridge at Sunset Blvd. It was moved over a block away on Santa Monica Blvd beginning at the intersection of Sunset Blvd continuing southwest on Santa Monica Blvd to Commonwealth St.
Ticket prices have jumped up quite a bit within a year. What used to be a $5.00 suggested donnation is now $25.00 a day, or $35.00 for a two day pass plus additional service fees. They can be pruchased online through Flavorus or at Amoeba Music, Barkeeper, Origami Vinyl, Vacation Vinyl and Wacko. With a stronger line up this year a high ticket prices should be expected and there will be donations be made to local programs. So it’s not a total money grab (Sunset Junction… you listening?).
i miss broadcast. so sad that trish keenan died… i love this song.
